Reading that starts a conversation
Across classrooms, students are practicing how to talk about what they read. Younger readers are retelling key events and noticing clues in illustrations. Older students are comparing viewpoints, identifying evidence, and explaining how a writer shapes a reader’s understanding. These conversations strengthen comprehension as well as confidence.
At home, a few thoughtful questions can be more useful than a long reading session that feels like a test. Ask what changed in a story, what a character might do next, or which detail helped explain an unfamiliar topic. Reading aloud together remains valuable even when a child can read independently. Families can also share articles, recipes, instructions, and books in the languages they use at home.
Learning through investigation
Our recent design activities have asked students to plan, test, and improve a solution. You may hear about model bridges, careful measurements, or a first attempt that did not go to plan. Those moments are part of the learning. Teachers are helping students describe what the evidence shows and choose a sensible next step, rather than treating an unexpected result as the end of the task.
Ask your child to explain a change they made to a piece of work this month. It might be a revised sentence, a different calculation strategy, or an adjustment to a model. Recognizing that process helps children see improvement as something they can influence through practice and feedback.
Join us at school
Family Night will offer informal learning activities and opportunities to talk with teachers. Our Open House is designed for families who want to explore classrooms and understand the school day. Both events are listed in the calendar with location and registration information. If access, language, or scheduling needs might affect your visit, please contact the office in advance so the team can help plan your arrival.
A few useful reminders
Please check that the school has current emergency contacts and authorized collection information. Label coats, bags, and reusable bottles, and encourage your child to check the lost-property area if an item has gone missing. Let the office know promptly about changes to medical or access needs so that information can reach the appropriate staff member.
